Synergy Sleep can diagnose your sleep disorder in the comfort and security of your own home, using the latest ambulatory sleep study equipment offering more complex data than most portable home sleep study devices.
The benefits of at home sleep monitoring versus in lab sleep studies are vast, with the results more accurately reflecting your usual sleep patterns as you are in your own bed, following your normal bedtime routine and your sleep is not disrupted by an overnight stay in a lab or hospital and its staff.
Your sleep study will then be assessed by Doctor John Feenstra from Wesley Pulmonary and Sleep Services, located at the Wesley Hospital in Brisbane.
Synergy Sleep offers Level 2 polysomnography (PSG), which records more complex data than most portable home sleep study devices. The monitoring device is worn overnight and records EEG & EOG (brainwaves and eye movements) to determine sleep stage, ECG (sinus rhythm), heart rate, oximetry, respiratory effort, airflow, body position, and limb movements. Level 3 studies monitor nasal flow, respiratory effort, oximetry and heart rate, and body position and can be a useful tool to assess severity of OSA if you do not qualify for level 2 Medicare bulk-billed study.
Whist our sleep studies are home-based, Synergy Sleep offer two different setup options for our Level 2 PSG studies. A clinician setup requires you to attend the clinic in the evening, please allow forty-five to sixty minutes whilst our clinician sets you up with the device and shows you what to do once at home. Alternatively with our self-setups you can collect the sleep study equipment anytime during the day and once home follow the video guide and booklet to set yourself up in the comfort of your own home. Please allow for thirty mins for self-setups as our clinician will still guide you through the process. The next morning you will be able remove the device carefully yourself when you wake up and pop it all in a case provided for its return to the clinic before 11am.
Bulk-billed Level 2 — Full PSG and Physiology (most preferred)
A general practitioner referral is required for bulk billing purposes. This sleep study will assess your EEG, EOG, ECG, heart rate, oximetry, respiratory effort, airflow, body position, and limb movements. This is a fully accredited Level 2 sleep study, lab analysed and assessed by our respiratory and sleep specialist Dr John Feenstra.
This study is best suited for patients who meet MBS Medicare billing requirements (i.e., severe daytime sleepiness, etc.) have existing comorbidities, and would like a general practitioner involved in every aspect of their study progress and treatment (if required).
Private Level 2 — Full PSG and Physiology (preferred)
This sleep study will assess your EEG and EOG (brainwaves and eye movements) to determine sleep stage, EEG, EOG, ECG, heart rate, oximetry, respiratory effort, airflow, body position, and limb movements. This is a fully accredited Level 2 sleep study, lab analysed and assessed by our respiratory and sleep specialist Dr John Feenstra.
This study is best suited for patients who do not meet MBS Medicare bulk-billing requirements or want to manage their own sleep health without general practitioner involvement and want access to the reporting specialist if necessary or have existing comorbidities and want privacy.
Private — Full PSG and Physiology
This sleep study will assess your EEG and EOG (brainwaves and eye movements) to determine sleep stage, EEG, EOG, ECG, heart rate, oximetry, respiratory effort, airflow, body position, and limb movements. This is the same as a Level 2 sleep study and lab analysed but is NOT assessed by a sleep physician. Therefore, only data interpretation and treatment recommendations can be made in line with ASA guidelines for sleep medicine. There is no formal physician diagnosis, and you will NOT be able to claim any private health fund rebates.
This study is best suited for patients who do not meet MBS Medicare bulk-billing requirements and want to manage their own sleep health without general practitioner or specialist involvement.
Private Level 3 — Respiratory Testing Only
This sleep study will measure oximetry, airflow (snoring), respiratory effort, breath per minute rates, heart rate, and body position. This test is best utilised for patients who have a high probability of sleep apnoea with no pre-existing comorbidities and do not want to see a general practitioner or specialist.
